Welcome to the Folkestone Art Society website

For more than eighty years members, past and present, have been pivotal in promoting the visual arts in Folkestone and the south east. In that time we have grown both in number of members as well as in the number and quality of the works exhibited.

Many eminent artists have been past members and the membership today includes professional and semi-professional artists as well as many talented amateurs.

Established as well as young artists are encouraged to exhibit at our two main exhibitions each year and, with the help of our Patrons, prizes are awarded to encourage both the membership as well as young artistic talent from schools in the area.

The 2009 Autumn Exhibition was one of the largest we have mounted with almost 300 works of art on view. During the year smaller exhibitions are held and members join with other groups to exhibit their work, such as the Leas Railings Exhibition which is held each summer.

Members also help on projects with other like-minded groups and organisations in the area such as the History Centre through ArtHist.

We open our Spring Exhibition on Wednesday 19 May 2010 and continue through to Monday 31 May at The Grand on The Leas in Folkestone.

See Next Exhibition for full details and opening times.

Invaluable support is given generously by our patrons Robert Benson, Graham Gordon and Michael Stainer.

That support helps the Society mount exhibitions of high standard and offer prizes to members, as well as to encourage young artists in schools and in the community.

Pictured throughout this website is a small and random selection of art shown at the Society's Autumn Exhibition in November 2009.
