Welcome to the Folkestone Art Society website | ||||||||||
For more than eighty five years members, past and present, have been pivotal in promoting the visual arts in Folkestone and the south east. In that time we have grown both in number of members as well as in the number and quality of the works exhibited. Many eminent artists have been past members and the membership today includes professional and semi-professional artists as well as many talented amateurs. Established as well as young artists are encouraged to exhibit at our two main exhibitions each year and, with the help of our Patrons, prizes are awarded. At the Autumn 2012 Exhibition, some 200 works of art were on view. During 2012 there were other successful exhibitions including the 2012 Spring Exhibition and the Summer Exhibition held in the Creative Quarter near the harbour. Members also joined with other groups to exhibit their work, including the Leas Railings Exhibition which is held each summer. Members also help on projects with other like-minded groups and organisations in the area such as the History Centre through ArtHist and the Open Studios initiative with SEOS. In 2013, we open our main Spring Exhibition on Saturday 11 May and continue through to Monday 27 May 2013 at The Grand on The Leas in Folkestone. See 'Forthcoming Exhibitions' for full details and opening times. Invaluable support is given generously by our patrons Robert Benson, Graham Gordon and Michael Stainer.
